Framework for the Disclosure of Biological Material from the Danish National Biobank for Research Purposes
Please read and download below the “Framework for the Disclosure of Biological Material from the Danish National Biobank for Research Purposes”, which describes how SSI ensures the framework for storage, processing and disclosure of DNB's biological material and associated data.
The Danish National Biobank (DNB) is located both organisationally and physically at Statens Serum Institut (SSI). On a daily basis, SSI receives both biological surplus material and associated data from treatment of patients, screening programmes or research projects. DNB thus includes both biological material and a national biobank register containing the biological samples’ associated data, as well as an overview of the location of the biological material stored outside the DNB. In addition, DNB offers freezing capacity for external parties who need to be able to place their biological samples in safe conditions.
As a public authority, the SSI is obliged to follow the principle of equal treatment, which means that all material in both the DNB and the associated register must be made available on equal terms to everyone. Conversely, SSI is also obliged to ensure that unauthorised persons do not gain access to the collections.
